  • Recharge Energies, Upgrade Intuition & Healing Skills with Qigong

    By Brendan Thorson, LMP

This article is published in the 2015 Winter edition of the Washington Massage Journal

Qigong is a 5,000+ year old ancient Chinese energy practice used to improve health, strength, longevity and for spiritual development. Qigong masters are famous for attaining enlightenment and super-healing abilities yet qigong can be beneficial to all who practice it. Qigong is an amazing tool that can aid Health Care professionals such as massage practitioners to refine their healing skills, strengthen and balance their energies and health, expel unhealthy foreign energies, and increase their career longevity.

I initially studied Qigong and Tai Chi between 1994-1999 to repair my exhausted body and mind. However, I didn’t experience any significant health benefits. So in 1999 I tried Yi Ren® Qigong— an easy standing and sitting qigong form. Since my first class my LMP skills began to advance at an accelerated rate and my mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health and life began to transform. Plus, a fascinating and empowering energetic world of knowledge opened up to me that made me supremely confident this practice would allow me to restore my health. I became very relaxed, confident and significantly more aware of myself and my surroundings. Sometimes I felt new energy refilling my depleted body, pools of energy moving in my chakras, energy circulating on my acupuncture pathways and pulsating acupuncture points. I also experienced a powerful magnetic energy field growing around my body reconnecting me to the nourishing universe above me, around me and to the earth below me. In addition, it quieted my intellectual mind and let my awareness sink into my body to become deeply centered and grounded in my body. This energetic evolution also developed my intuition and my internal wisdom. My internal wisdom merged with my acupuncture points and pathways to create a simple Internal-Feedback-System that gave me invaluable information to guide me in my life. The Yi Ren Qigong helped me to reach a higher level of health and strength and heightened my awareness to become a much wiser and dramatically improved LMP.Internal_Power_Station4

The development of the energy body can be a key to an LMPs energetic health. In my introductory Qigong class, working on our foundation, we activate our energy field, turn on our Internal Power Station (Life-Gate/Kidneys) and ground the kidney energy to the feet. After the first class an LMP will be able to use the qigong to balance their health and integrate it into their massage practice. With continued training we develop the entire energy body, (organs, endocrine glands, brain, nervous system…) to create a higher level of internal harmony. When the timing is right an LMP will be able to use the qigong to increase the vitality of any body-part, body-system or body-function they want to like their feet, thyroid, lungs, sleep quality, immunity or protection energies…

Increased awareness is necessary to achieve self-mastery and refine one’s LMP skills. As one’s awareness sinks into their body from the qigong then everything begins to slow down and it’s like looking at yourself and your surroundings through a magnifying glass. Then one is able to discover many subtleties about themselves. For instance, the optimal level of breath, muscular tension and relaxation to hold in their body and the perfect depth, pressure and speed used at every moment during a massage.

Yi Ren Qigong uses simple exercises to refresh and expel unwanted energies. Commonly after a long day of work one feels rundown and depleted. With a short 5 to 10 minute practice, one can bring in fresh energy and release old stagnant energy that has accumulated. This is an extremely important practice for health care practitioners who are sometimes for years exchanging unhealthy energy with their clients. Overtime, working almost like a toxic disposal service, one may have health issues like arthritis, anxiety, depression… stealing our vitality because our body is so polluted. Like how a car engine will be short lived if the oil is never changed or not changed regularly.

Whether beginner or expert LMP the Qigong can take you to the next level. The advanced awareness and development I obtained from my practice made me evolve to levels I did not know were possible as a human and LMP. What will the qigong do for your life and healing practice?

  • Taoist Secrets to Menopause & Low Testosterone

    By Brendan Thorson, LMP
& edited by Brian Kidd, 3/1/2012

This article is published in the 2012 Autumn issue of the Qi-Journal Magazine

Would you like to maintain youthful vitality into your elder years and skip the dramatic mid-life health decline that naturally occurs when both men and women have a significant reduction in their reproductive hormone levels?  Modern Medicine offers hormone replacement therapy to help some people ease into old age, but evidence has shown there are many side effects and risks that may outweigh the gains for those who do not want to gamble with their health.

Fortunately for those who truly cherish their health and life, the Ancient Taoists Masters Secrets to potentially reverse, prevent or delay the onset of Menopause and Low Testosterone (or Andropause) are available to you from Yi Ren Qigong Training.  Yi Ren Qigong can help you to naturally maintain and transform your health, energy levels and reproductive hormones. This can make it possible to prolong your youthful vitality and to help you obtain longevity with robust internal energies, strength and peace throughout.

    Symptoms of female hormone imbalance

    • Acne or oily skin
    • Bloating
    • Bone loss
    • Decreased fertility
    • Depression
    • Excess facial and body hair
    • Hot flashes
    • Heavy or painful periods
    • Irregular periods
    • Irritability
    • Loss of muscle mass
    • Loss of scalp hair

Menopause and Low Testosterone is usually caused by a gradual decline of internal energies and energy systems of the body. This results in a weakened reproductive system and lower production of reproductive energies and hormones.  This is similar to the premature deterioration of a car that is not well maintained and regularly serviced.  Chinese Medicine believes women reach their peak strength at the age of 28 and men at the age of 32.  Then both sexes energies gradually weaken as the years pass, because they are leaking vital energy. By the time they are in their late 40s or mid 50s both sexes internal energies will commonly degrade to the point that their reproductive energies are significantly compromised. This will result in the body and mind getting weaker and initiate the process of growing old.1

    Symptoms of male hormone imbalance

    • Bone loss
    • Decreased mental clarity
    • Decreased muscle strength
    • Decreased stamina
    • Decreased urine flow
    • Depression
    • Erectile dysfunction
    • Hot flashes

    faculty.southwest.tn.edu

There are many health complications related to the process of mid-life change. These include the glands not working at an optimal level resulting, in lower hormone production and the depletion of vital internal energies.  For instance, women commonly experience hot flashes, irritability, anxiety, loss of scalp hair, excess facial hair, and weak muscles and joints.  While men commonly experience decreased muscular strength, stamina, erectile dysfunction, increased body fat and poor sleep.2 (see attached chart for more details)  All the above symptoms are a clear sign that the body has lost its original power and natural internal energy balance.  If we were to see a young person with all of the above noted health problems, we would feel sorry for that individual and hope he had a way to regain his health and youthful vitality. If you had the choice between living with the aforementioned symptoms and health complications or enjoying your mid-life and beyond, which would you choose?

Yi Ren Qigong can reset the internal energy programs by reorganizing the internal energy systems so a person can gain energy, as opposed to losing energy as he or she ages.  Using our car analogy, this would be like getting your vehicle regularly serviced and well maintained. For some people this would be like getting a major overhaul, including rebuilding the car’s entire engine to transform it from a jalopy to a gem. The energy systems that would be reprogrammed include the reproductive energies and hormones to maintain health and avoid the natural aging process most people experience in their mid life.  Yi Ren Qigong training begins to improve and harmonize our internal energy levels including the functioning of the organs and glands.   There are many key centers and areas of the body that need to be developed to upgrade the whole energy system in a balanced way.

The 3-steps directly related to the development and maintenance of the reproductive system that take place in development of the energy body from levels 1-3 in the Yi Ren Qigong Training:

    1. The activation of the “Power Center” Sacrum related to boosting the energy levels of the reproductive system.

      The Sacrum (www.theouterbankshospital.com)

    2. The development of the Reproductive Energy Pathways and reproductive glands which include the Testes/Prostate or Ovaries/Uterus.
    3. Reversing the energy flow of the reproductive energies from outward to inward. This will allow the body to digest more of its reproductive energies for upgrading our energy levels that can be used for healing, personal growth and spiritual development, just like our energy system was when we were children.

You may be asking yourself is it really possible to reset and enhance my internal energies and postpone or prevent Menopause or Low Testosterone?  I believe the answer is yes.   When I first began this training at the age of 30 my body was prematurely worn down, weak and exhausted—I felt like an exhausted broken down old-man stuck in a young-man’s body.  Yi Ren Qigong has allowed me to rebuild my once broken down mind and body.  A major key to the strengthening and healing of my body has been the empowering of my reproductive system and increased levels of reproductive hormones as a result of my Qigong training.  A process that could be described as second puberty or adult puberty lead to a slight deepening of my voice, increased facial hair, a boosting of my reproductive system and reproductive system aliveness like I had as a teenager.  The above noted changes were important to help me become more masculine, but the real long term benefits from my upgraded reproductive system is the increased regeneration power my body now has for greater healing, vitality, longevity, and development for my life.

I also notice sometimes during my qigong practice that I can feel the reproductive glands are very alive, active and can sense the energy flow backward into my body and then circulate to other areas of my body like my organs, bones, fascia, and muscles for healing and tonification.  This is described as the reverse energy flow in Taoism—so one can be like a child again.  Like the energy flow of babies and kids before reaching puberty.  That gives children the amazing power to physically and mentally grow and develop.

To date I have had numerous male and female students with ages ranging from Teens to 70s that have significantly increased their internal strength, vitality and energies.  I have visually watched students reverse their biological age and heard umpteen testimonials related to their healing and health benefits related to reproductive hormone imbalance symptoms.

  • Sleep Like a Child: Transcending your Sleep with Yi Ren® Qigong

    By Brendan Thorson, LMP  2/16/2012,

This article is published in the 2013 Spring issue of the Qi-Journal Magazine

    Tips for Getting Better Sleep

    http://helpguide.org/life/sleep_aging.htm

Would you like to be able to fall asleep shortly after you go to bed, sleep deeply throughout the night, and wake up feeling rejuvenated and refreshed every morning?  If you have ever personally struggled with insomnia or your sleep quality then you know how important good and deep sleep is to your health and well being.  It is estimated that “70 million Americans suffer from a Sleep Disorder”.1  Deep sleep is essential to activate the Endocrine System, which is responsible for creating our Internal Medicine—the release of essential hormones–for recharging our body/ mind and releasing  waste products like stress that have built up during the day.  Once our sleep becomes light and problematic, it triggers a domino affect, gradually degrading our vital energies supporting our body, mind and nervous system while simultaneously allowing toxic waste products like stress and anxiety to infest and contaminate our homeostasis and internal peace.  If you would like to sleep like a child again, feel refreshed and energetic, then Yi Ren Qigong can allow you to accomplish your goals.

The effects of sleep deprivation and chronic lack of sleep

    • Fatigue, lethargy, and lack of motivation
    • Moodiness and irritability
    • Reduced creativity and problem-solving skills
    • Inability to cope with stress
    • Reduced immunity; frequent colds and infections
    • Concentration and memory problems
    • Weight gain
    • Impaired motor skills and increased risk of accidents
    • Difficulty making decisions
    • Increased risk of diabetes, heart disease, and other health problems http://helpguide.org/life/sleeping.htm

    buffalonews.com

I recall as a teenager and early adult how my sleep quality gradually began to deteriorate as I aged.  By the time I was in my early twenties, it was difficult for me to fall asleep, and sleep soundly throughout the night.  I would commonly wake up from my alarm clock in the morning—because of work or school obligations— before getting adequate sleep, which made me frustrated and not properly refreshed for my day ahead.  I regularly struggled to fall asleep, especially if I went to bed after midnight.  During the hours of 9 and 10pm, I was commonly tired and sleepy, but I usually put off going to bed until after 11pm. Unfortunately, by that time, my mind would begin to get very active—which included racing thoughts–and I was no longer sleepy. I would usually lie down in bed and become aggravated for one or more hours before I would fall asleep.  Once I fell asleep, I was easily awakened by noise—which was a clear indication that even though I was sleeping, I was not reaching the levels of deep sleep necessary to refresh the body and mind.

“The most damaging effects of sleep deprivation are from inadequate deep sleep. Deep sleep is a time when the body repairs itself and builds up energy for the day ahead. It plays a major role in maintaining your health, stimulating growth and development, repairing muscles and tissues, and boosting your immune system. In order to wake up energized and refreshed, getting quality deep sleep is key”.2

I knew my sleep problems were a major factor in my failing health and strength.  I was struggling with many sleep disorder symptoms including: exhaustion, compromised immune system, low stress capacity, and concentration and memory problems.

    Sleeping Medications and Sleep Aids:

    overstock.com

    texasswimshop.com

In order to try and correct my sleep issues, I tried Western medicine, a Chinese herbal sleep formula, Melatonin, and Ear-Plugs.  Western medicine allowed me to sleep, but after awakening I did not feel rested and actually felt tired—a clear sign the sleep drug was not the right choice for me.  I had much better results from both the Chinese sleep formula and Melatonin than I did from Western Medicine.  They both helped me to sleep, but they never fixed the origin of my problem—so I needed one of them every night.  Or allowed me to reach deep levels of sleep like I needed to truly help me heal from my years of exhaustion and feel ready to go every morning.  Therefore, since my sleep was superficial I had to use ear-plugs every night to minimize waking from noises during the evening—another sign the Chinese sleep formula and Melatonin were unable to help me reach deep levels of sleep necessary to feel mentally and physically fresh.   Ear-plugs never helped me to improve my sleep quality, but they were effective at minimizing being awoken by external noises.  I can honestly say that I did benefit from some sleep aides I used; however, they were more or less like using a band-aid on a cut for me because they helped cover up the sleep issue I had but never truly addressed or corrected the origin of my sleep issues.

Transcending My Sleep w/ Yi Ren Qigong:

    greatergood.berkeley.edu

After 8-10 yrs of seriously struggling with my sleep and my deteriorating health I began studying Yi Ren Qigong (an authentic qi/energy centered cultivation practice[3]) with Yi Ren Qigong Developer Dr. Guan-Cheng Sun.  During my first class with Dr. Sun I could clearly feel the positive impact his Qigong was having on my health.  I felt rejuvenated, refreshed and energized from my first class.  I could clearly feel this training had the potential to bring me back my lost health and strength and I was committed to learn Yi Ren Qigong and resurrect my lost life and vitality.  Thus, I made it a very high priority in my life and I began to practice as often as I could on my own; in addition, to attending the weekly classes.  Within a couple of weeks of training my sleep made a 180-degree turn—from superficial and inadequate sleep to deep and refreshing sleep.  I was surprised how fast my sleep transformed.  The deep sleep I was now getting, in addition to the energy improvements and healing I was getting from the Qigong practice, was creating an opportunity for my body and mind to recover from my years of exhaustion and energy depletion— a major factor in my health decline.

Balancing Internal Energies leads to Sleep Transformation:

During the early days of my practice I made many discoveries that were keys in helping me improve my sleep and begin to understand the health imbalances that (energetically) caused me to deeply struggle with my sleep.  Also, learn how to operate, manage and regenerate my broken down body/mind.  One revelation I had was to practice every night before going to bed.  This had many benefits including helping me to become very calm and relaxed before going to bed—allowing me to fall asleep quickly and sleep soundly through the night.  Sometimes my late night practice would cut into my normal sleep schedule, but I found that since my sleep quality was significantly deeper than before that I never felt tired upon awakening even if my sleep time was reduced by an hour or more.  Then, I no longer needed any sleep aides and my sleep quality quickly improved to the point that I was awakening every morning feeling deeply refreshed.

    ddsdtv.blogspot.com

In addition, from my practice I found a few key energy centers and organs that were vital in the restoration of my sleep.  For example, from working with the Third-Eye I felt a reprogramming and resetting occur deep inside the center of my brain, which I felt was related to my Pineal Gland and its role on the sleep/wake cycle.   Then, I could feel the work I was doing on the lower abdomen “dantian” and lower back “kidney center” was strengthening and balancing my internal energies and foundation.  I began to specifically feel the development of the Dantian was bringing new fresh energy into my body to support my daily activities and nourish my nervous system allowing me to feel calm, centered and relaxed.  While the work done to develop the Kidney center was helping me to feel energized and grounded.  In addition, the work done to develop both the Dantian and Kidneys was also keeping my energies much more grounded which prevented the energy from rising up and stimulating racing thoughts at night around 11pm to midnight (like it used to) that once triggered my insomnia and years of frustration.

You may be asking yourself how was he able to feel and understand what was occurring from his qigong practice and in particular what he described from the work he did on his Third-Eye, Dantian and Kidney-Center?  With the Yi Ren Qigong training we activate our energy system and the energy becomes a bridge between the mind and the body and also amplifies the feelings of the body so the mind can better hear the bodies messages.  Thus we begin to get more sensitive and heighten our awareness similar to how a blind person can develop their sensitivity to read by brail, enhance their hearing skills and awareness’s to their physical environment so they can walk around their home without walking into the walls and tables etc.  Or if that analogy does not work for you then think about trying to listen to music with the stereo turned on but the volume turned as low as possible so you will not be able to hear the music.  But, then if you were to turn the volume up to an appropriate level you would be able to hear the music.  So the activation of the energy system from Yi Ren Qigong more or less turns up the bodies’ volume so the brain can better hear the bodies signals.

Thus, from the practice of Yi Ren Qigong for example, one can begin to feel and understand what areas of their body are strong or weak, where they have excess emotions, feel the organs and glands, and energy pathways connected to an energy center, organ, or chakra.  This may seem far out to someone who has never done this type of training before, but it is a skill that is easily developed and it is the key for Self-Awareness and Self-Realization necessary for Self-healing, Personal Growth and Spiritual Development.

    Age and Sleeping:

    visualphotos.com

“Given what we know, late childhood may well be the “golden age” of sleep during a lifetime. Beyond the age of 11 or 12, sleep disturbances begin to creep in.”4    “Along with the physical changes that occur as we get older, changes to our sleep patterns are a part of the normal aging process. As people age they tend to have a harder time falling asleep and more trouble staying asleep than when they were younger. It is a common misconception that sleep needs decline with age.”5

According to Chinese Medicine insomnia or sleep weaknesses occurs naturally when some internal energies get out of balance.  For instance, deficiency of blood, qi, yang, yin, disturbed spirit/heart, excess heat, liver congestion, and wind invasion are all examples of internal qi imbalances that can cause insomnia.6 As you can see insomnia is truly a symptom of internal energy weaknesses and imbalances.  Commonly most peoples energies are more balanced and vibrant as children and as we age our energies gradually decrease and become less balanced.  Now, I hope you can see the direct correlation between why children usually have great quality sleep in comparison to adults.

In conclusion, regardless of your age or length of time you have struggled with your sleep Yi Ren Qigong can help you transform your sleep, balance your energies and improve your health so you will be able to feel more refreshed and vibrant.  Yi Ren Qigong has been the key to me regaining my health and sleep and  as the years have passed and my Qigong cultivation has deepened I have found that I need much less sleep than before.  Now I usually need 4.5 – 5hrs of sleep a night to feel deeply refreshed and ready for the day ahead.  After improving my sleep from Yi Ren Qigong I have never again used or purchased any sleep aids.

  • Prevent and Reverse Osteoporosis: Taoist Secrets to Vibrant Kidneys and Strong Bones

    By Brendan Thorson, LMP  2/3/2012,

This article is published in the 2012 Summer issue of the Qi-Journal Magazine

    health.nytimes.com

Would you like to have strong Kidneys and youthful, vibrant bones and not be concerned about osteoporosis and/or having weak, fragile bones?  “In the United States, more than 40 million people either already have osteoporosis or are at high risk due to low bone mass.”1  Strong and healthy bones are essential to everyone’s health and having the ability to be independent and live their life to the fullest.  The Ancient Taoists Masters, who created Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, knew thousands of years ago that the Kidneys rule the bones; therefore, if you have strong and vibrant Kidneys, you will naturally have healthy, dense and robust bones.  Modern Medicine has recently found evidence that shows a direct correlation between the Kidneys functioning at low levels and bone loss.  Yi Ren® Qigong can connect you to the teaching of the Ancient Taoists Masters, which can assist you in maintaining or building strong kidneys and bones.  If you are interested in having powerful bones and a high level of health and vitality, then Yi Ren Qigong can help you achieve your goals.

As noted above, the Ancient Taoists Masters, who created Chinese Medicine, knew thousands of years ago that the number one key to healthy bones is having strong kidneys.  Chinese Medicine clearly states—the Kidneys rule the bones and the teeth are an extension of the bones.  Thus, if someone is having significant problems with his or her teeth or a child’s bones are not developing properly, then weak kidneys could be the culprit, and should be energized in order for bone health to improve. 2

During my research for the article, I was excited to discover that Western Medicine has found a correlation between weak bones and kidneys. “A common side effect for patients with kidney failure is bone decay. Almost everybody who has kidney failure will have a loss of bone forming potential,” said Keith Hruska, Professor of Nephrology, Pediatrics, and Cell Biology and Physiology at The University Washington School of Medicine.  “(These patients) lose the ability to form bone at a normal rate. Kidney disease, or loss of kidney function, directly causes loss of skeletal function…you end up with weakened bones.”3

    catalog.nucleusinc.com

Your bones are alive and never stop rebuilding themselves—old bone cells are constantly being replaced by new bone cells in a process referred to as Remodeling.  However, for people with Osteoporosis or others with weakening bones, the remodeling process is unable to keep up with the bone loss. 4  This is analogous to spending more money every month than you have earned,  and then gradually going deeper into debt. However, in this case, because your body’s energy– in particular your Kidney energy level–is functioning at a low level, your bones are going into debt—spending more (old bone cells) than they are earning (new bone cells). As a result, the bones’ bank account is running in the negative and is gradually getting deeper and deeper into debt, which results in weaker, thinner, less dense and more fragile bones.

    The effect of Kidneys-Minerals-Bones:

As a result of the public messages by Dairy industry and the FDA, most people in America are aware that Calcium and Vitamin D help create strong bones.  Phosphate is also another major mineral that contributes to strong bones.   “Phosphate is a mineral in the body, and together with calcium makes up most of our bones. Phosphate, like Calcium, is also used in other parts of the body to ‘power’ muscle and is used in many other chemical reactions.”5  “Vitamin D is a chemical needed so that calcium can get from food into the body. A little Vitamin D is absorbed from food, but most is made in the skin, in a process that only occurs if the skin is stimulated by sunlight. Even then, vitamin D has to be converted to an active form in the kidneys.”5  (Maybe there is a correlation between seasonal Depression, Vitamin D and Weak Kidney function?)  In addition, the “Parathyroid hormone (PTH for short) is a hormone, essentially a chemical messenger, which is very important in controlling the level of calcium in the blood.”5  “If the level of calcium in the blood falls, the parathyroid glands normally produce more PTH, which pulls some calcium from the bones into the blood, normalizing the blood’s calcium level. If the calcium level in the blood rises above normal, PTH secretion falls, and the level of calcium in the blood falls back to normal.”5

When the Kidneys are not working efficiently, they cannot help a person maintain healthy and strong bones. For instance when the kidneys’ energy levels are low they leak essential calcium and phosphate which is lost in the urine.5  Based on the previous paragraph you may be able to hypothesize the domino affect that occurs when the kidneys are leaking phosphate and calcium and bone loss—Kidneys leaking Calcium and Phosphate→ bone remodeling process is losing more cells than gaining→ if calcium level in blood is low then Parathyroid Hormone triggers the bones to release extra calcium→ creating more loss of bone mass…  In addition, to Vitamin D dependency on Kidney function to do its job correctly.5

Yi Ren Qigong and the Kidneys:

At the heart of Yi Ren Healthy Qigong is the development of the Kidney power.  Yi Ren Qigong follows the secret teaching of the Ancient Taoist Masters to build a strong and hearty foundation including a vibrant, powerful body and skeletal system to support one to achieve their life’s mission and the Kidneys are the root of the foundational work.  Starting in the first class of Yi Ren Qigong we begin to work on upgrading the Kidney energy levels and working capacity with the Internal Power Station Activation Exercise[6], where we more or less jump start the Kidneys like one would jump start their car battery if they left their car lights on too long.  With continued practice of Yi Ren Qigong and a focus on the Kidneys the body can continue to upgrade the Kidney vitality and as the Kidney levels improve so will the strength and sturdiness of the bones and the whole body.

Since I began practicing Yi Ren Qigong I have been able to awaken my Kidneys and gradually get them stronger and more powerful and as my Kidneys have gotten stronger I have also felt my whole body upgrade and remodel itself from the inside out.  I have witnessed my whole body including my bones get more and more deeply filled up with vital energies.  Which is contrary to how I use to feel from exercise I did prior to studying Yi Ren Qigong, for instance at times in my pre-Yi Ren Qigong past I use to do lots of physical exercise, which felt good in a lot of ways, but on many levels I could also feel I was deeply exhausted and actually depleting or stealing energy from other vital areas of my body like my organs and nervous system to repair my broken  down muscles.  Now, as my body is more filled with vital energy from Yi Ren Qigong and I do physical exercise I can feel it is helping compress the energies deeper into the depth of my bones, muscles, fascia, tendons and joints, but not stealing essential energies from other vital areas of my body.

    Magnetic Energy and Bone Health:

    answers.com

    androidarea51.com

Another thing that has happened to me from my Yi Ren Qigong practice is an increased connection to the magnetic energy field of the earth.  During my daily life, I commonly feel my whole body enveloped in a magnetic field and my feet deeply magnetized to the earth.  As I walk and move throughout the day I feel like I have magnets on my feet connected to the earth and the magnetic energy field surrounding my body creates a feeling like I am walking under water.  I can feel the amazing healing benefits from the earths amplified magnetic energy field on my body and bones.  Something the Taoist Masters have known for years.

    sciencewithme.com

“Dr. Gabriel Cousens has compiled many documented studies pertaining to the crystalline structure of the human bone structure.  In his book, Spiritual Healing and the Rainbow Diet, he reports that bones can receive and emanate electromagnetic fields in the same manner as other crystalline structures.  These fields can affect cell nutrition, cell functions, enzyme activity, energy transfer, and many other internal activities.  Bone-generated electromagnetic fields relate directly to the assimilation of nutrient energy, which means that they affect our intake of energy from external sources such as food.”7

Research has shown how bones can heal at a faster rate from the use of small electrical current, which may explain how electro magnetic fields, like I shared about my personal experience from Yi Ren Qigong, can make bones stronger and healthier.  Research has documented the positive use of electro magnetic energy on bone healing→ electro magnetic energy has been used to increase calcium levels in bones suffering from osteoporosis.7

“Bone loss accelerates after menopause, when older women have a quick drop in estrogen. Over time, the risk of osteoporosis and fracture increases as older women lose more bone than they replace.”4 “Younger women who stop menstruating — such as thin athletes or girls with anorexia — also have compromised bone density”4.  “Men need both testosterone and estrogen for bone health. That’s because men convert testosterone into bone-preserving estrogen.”4  As you can see reproductive energy is an essential ingredient for strong bones.  When the estrogen is missing the bones are much weaker.  Similar to the construction of concrete–they add reinforced steel to concrete when it needs increased strength and power to accomplish its job.  Similarly our reproductive energies are vital to create extra power for our bones like the use of steel used to create extra strong concrete.  The Yi Ren Qigong practice also allows one to upgrade and keep their essential reproductive energies strong and healthy which is necessary for longevity and vitality of the whole body including the bones.

In addition, research with Rats, whose Ovaries were removed and had Osteoporotic Lumbar Vertebrae, had significant Bone Mineral Density improvements from the use of magnetic therapy.8  This is very important news because one study has shown that women who have had both ovaries removed “caused a 54% increase in hip, spine and wrist fractures in postmenopausal women.”4

    Exercise and Bone Density:

Research has found a positive correlation between bone remodeling and weight bearing exercise.4  From my personal experience, I believe the addition of Yi Ren Qigong along with weight bearing exercises can significantly amplify the benefits to the bones and overall muscular skeletal structure (like the use of steel rebar in concrete)→ The combination of the physical exercise can help the “qi” (harnessed from the Yi Ren Qigong practice) integrate into the Bones and the overall muscular skeletal structure to make it healthier stronger and more youthful.

In closing, Yi Ren Qigong can dramatically improve the health of practitioners Kidneys and  Bones to bring one vitality and longevity.  From my own experiences I know Yi Ren Qigong has been the key ingredient to help me transform and upgrade my once fragile and weak muscular skeletal system and depleted Kidneys.

  • Balancing Hormones for Improved Energy

    By Brendan Thorson, LMP  1/25/2012,

This article is published in the 2013 Summer issue of the Qi-Journal Magazine

    Endocrine Glands: becomehealthynow.com

Would you like to feel energetic and youthful like you did 5, 10, 15 or 20 years ago?  Regardless of age—20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s… many us have experienced a significant loss of vitality from what we had 5, 10 or more years ago and have accepted our current situation as a natural result of the aging process.  Modern medicine and science has found many health issues related to imbalanced hormone levels like reduced stamina, loss of mental clarity, depression, irritability, Arthritis, Fatigue, anxiety, weight gain, shortened life span, and insomnia/poor-sleep.  Modern medicine uses Hormone Replacement Therapy they prescribe for low hormone levels, but it does not work as effectively as that naturally made by the human body and also has many side affects—to learn for yourself Google hormone replacement therapy side affects.  The Ancient Taoist’s Masters like modern day scientists believed the Endocrine system is the fountain of youth, but unlike today’s scientists they learned how to naturally keep the endocrine system balanced and vibrant.  If you would like to take control of your health and find your personal fountain of youth or to restore your tired body and mind then look no further than Yi Ren Qigong to connect to the Ancient Taoists Masters Secret Teachings for improved energy, health and upgrading your Endocrine System.

The Yi Ren Healthy Qigong system is a novel Qigong System designed by Dr. Guan-Cheng Sun, to activate, nourish, upgrade and rebalance the energy levels of all the major energy centers, chakras, acupuncture pathways, organs and Endocrine System and Glands.  As a result, of the energetic development that takes place from the Yi Ren Qigong practice practitioners are able to recharge and restore vitality to the endocrine glands and then they naturally begin to function at a more youthful level and upgrade their hormone production and release.

    Some External Acupuncture Pathways: healthandmeditationcorner.blogspot.com

For someone who has never done this kind of work before it might be difficult to understand how it is possible to bring energy to areas like the Endocrine Glands.  Thus, for now I will use an analogy to bridge the gap for you.  In our bodies we all have energy roads–commonly known as acupuncture pathways that the energy travels on to circulate throughout the body that go to specific locations in our body like an endocrine gland, organs, chakras… (Similar to Americas Energy system that transfers energy from a power source (to the power lines) throughout the energy grid to any location it can reach; i.e.. from a power source to a city and then to your home).  If you are alive whether you know it or not you are connected to the energy matrix of the Universe—just like most homes are connected to the energy grid so you can get energy to your home whenever you turn on your computer, microwave oven or anything else you want to power up.   Therefore, a Yi Ren Qigong practitioner who has developed his or her skills, energy source and acupuncture pathways, is able to bring energy to anywhere in his or her body—like a gland or organ–to upgrade organ systems, energy levels and functionality of the specific area of the body.

To continue with our analogy let’s say the wiring system in your home (acupuncture pathways) is not working correctly and the power reaching your microwave is lower than it should be so it is working poorly, at a lower level than it was created too.  As a result, you have an electrician fix the wiring in your home.  After fixing the wiring system you can now get the appropriate amount of energy to your microwave and it will work like it was designed to.  (Until one actually does this training and has his own personal experience he will not be able to truly understand).  To summarize, Yi Ren Qigong can help you to create and or enhance your energy source/s, teach you to become your personal electrician of your internal energy system and allow you to guide as much energy to your electronics—endocrine glands and organs–as necessary.

We can also, develop ourselves kind of like a plant having the ability to absorb energy from the Sun and Water to nourish (recharge) the body. Like tuning up a car engine so that it runs smoother, we can also tune up areas of the body to increase the body’s overall performance.

    Thyroid Gland:

Illustration of the Thyroid Gland. mayoclinic.com

Some experts estimate there are 59 million Americans with Thyroid problems and most people do not know they have an imbalance or problem.1  Most people with Thyroid problems or other endocrine problems are not detected because doctors commonly do not think a patient’s list of complaints are related to the Thyroid. Therefore, commonly the doctor does not test for it and even when it is tested for, commonly the test results show that the patient is in normal range.  This is the same for Adrenal tests too, “Conventional endocrinologists and tests cannot diagnose adrenal fatigue, because they are prepared only to diagnose extreme dysfunction in the adrenals, such as Addison’s disease, a potentially fatal condition where the adrenals essentially shut down.”2  Also, from my understanding Western Medicine tests are not sensitive enough to find someone with organ weaknesses until the organ is running at or below 10% of its optimum level.  Not good.

“The thyroid hormones control your metabolism, which is the body’s ability to break down food and store it as energy and the ability to break down food into waste products with a release of energy in the process.”3  Fatigue is the highest complaint of people suffering from Thyroid issues including depression, anxiety, poor sleep, weight issues, and joint and muscle issues too.1  Before I began learning Yi Ren Qigong I am sure I had Thyroid issues.  In fact, after I began Yi Ren Qigong I often began to feel my Thyroid pulsate and vibrate, some thing I had never felt before studying Yi Ren Qigong, this was evidence to me that my thyroid was weak and was in the process of improving its vitality.  Based on many previous experiences I had with Yi Ren Qigong I learned that it is common to feel areas of the body pulsate or vibrate while new energy is digested or upgrading the related body part; therefore, when I began to feel my Thyroid pulsate and vibrate I was excited because I knew my thyroid was in the process of healing itself.  Over the past 12+ years as I have continued to improve my health and energy levels with Yi Ren Qigong and I have also experienced a direct correlation to my thyroid getting stronger.  In fact, it is very easy for me to use my intention to bring my awareness directly to my thyroid and feel it pulsate and feel hot too—similar to one bringing their attention to their hand/s, but because of my training I am able to bring my attention to my thyroid and energize it.

    Adrenal Glands:

Illustration of the Adrenal Glands. Mayoclinic.com

Adrenal exhaustion commonly accompanies Thyroid problems.2  The Adrenal glands are famous for their role in helping us deal with stress.  “The main hormones of the stress response are adrenalin (epinephrine) and cortisol.  When a person responds to any long-term stressful situation, they first ramp up production of epinephrine, then cortisol to deal with that life challenge, whether illness, family issues, job stress, or physical or emotional trauma.  If the stress continues these hormonal changes are hard to undo”.4  “Elevated cortisol levels have been linked to all major chronic illnesses of our society: heart disease, cancer, autoimmune disease, and premature aging.”4

In acute cases of stress, like an accident or when the body believes it is a life or death situation the body will release adrenalin to ensure survival.  “If stress continues, the adrenal glands produce cortisol within ten minutes to raise blood sugar and insulin levels, move blood to muscles and away from digestion, lower levels of sex hormones and break down protein stores for energy.”  Continued stress eventually leads to the Maladapted stage, in which the body starts to break down from the effects of elevated cortisol.”  “Cortisol imbalance can lead to fatigue, weight gain, immune suppression, and susceptibility to colds and flu, joint pains, mood swings, anxiety, depression, insomnia and digestive symptoms”.  Prior to learning Yi Ren Qigong I suffered for years from fatigue, joint pains, anxieties, mild depressions, terrible sleep and I would catch a cold or a flu almost every week, as soon as I would get over one cold flu or sinus issue I would catch another one.  It was a very frustrating part of my life; however, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise since it led me to find Yi Ren Qigong, the greatest blessing of my life.4

In today’s faced-paced world, many people deal with stress on a daily basis. This fast-paced lifestyle can include stress from driving, work, family and relationships.  This type of hectic lifestyle has the potential to trigger the Adrenals, which release the hormones of Adrenalin and Cortisol to deal with the stress. However, although these hormones may be beneficial in dealing with a stressful situation, after a person reaches a certain point based on his or her body’s capacity, the body is unable to reset itself to an unstressed state, even after the stressful situation has long since passed.4

I use to easily feel stressed and on edge, but after Yi Ren Qigong training, I can handle a much greater amount of stress than I use to be able to (the capacity to handle greater amounts of stress is common benefit I hear from Yi Ren Qigong students).  In my introductory classes and the first class of the level-One series we focus on resetting the Adrenal Glands so one can begin to get out of the heightened state of being constantly amped up.

    Reproductive Glands:

Reproductive hormone imbalances are also a major cause of fatigue, weakness and an assortment of other energy weaknesses and imbalances.5   Women have two endocrine glands called ovaries while men have two endocrine glands called testes.

Estrogen and progesterone are the two main female hormones created in the ovaries and they are responsible for puberty, when a girl develops to a women, and for maintaining her female characterists.  While for men, testosterone is the key ingredient responsible for the transformation of a boy to a man and maintaining his male characterists.3

If a women’s estrogen or progesterone levels become unbalanced a number of issues can arise related to the hormone imbalances.  Below is a list of General signs and symptoms of Female Hormonal Imbalances:

    • Changes in menstruation
    • Acne
    • Basal body temperature
    • Oily skin
    • Excessive hair growth
    • Fatigue
    • Dizziness
    • Allergy symptoms
    • Anxiety
    • Low sex drive
    • Headaches
    • Weight Gain
    • Depression
    • Endometriosis
    • Water Retention
    • Premenstrual syndrome (PMS)
    • Urinary Tract Infections

Men also have numerous signs and symptoms related to imbalanced testosterone levels.

    • Bone loss
    • Decreased Mental Clarity, Muscular strength, Stamina, Urine Flow
    • Erectile Dysfunction
    • Hot Flashes
    • Increased Abdominal Fat
    • Increased Urge to urinate
    • Irritability
    • Low Sex Drive
    • Mood Swings
    • Night Sweats
    • Poor concentration
    • Sleep Disturbances

You can see that for both men and women, there are many different types of signs and symptoms related to reproductive hormonal imbalances. Prior to studying Yi Ren Qigong, I personally lived with a number of the above symptoms for men, all of which have been cured by this practice.  I have also spoken to umpteen male and female students who have testified that Yi Ren Qigong has completely healed or significantly improved a tremendous amount of their problems related to reproductive hormone imbalances.

Based on my understanding of Chinese Medicine, all of the above signs and symptoms are related to low energy levels and internal energy imbalances within the organ systems.

As many people have today, I had  an extremely imbalanced and disorganized energy system. This can cause a number of different health complaints and symptoms.  For most people,  when they have numerous health problems it can be come overwhelming and disempowering.  One of the most important things Yi Ren Qigong addresses is healing the root of the health problem/s. Once the root of the problem is fixed, then the symptoms naturally disappear. Simultaneously, the body can address curing wounded self confidence and empower people to let go of negative emotions. These emotions are often built up from lifestyle and the health issues. This can cause a person to become disempowered and frustrated with his life and health.  In order to truly heal yourself, you also need to address all of the negative internal emotions. Negative internal emotions and internal conflicts cause the body to constantly leak energies and run at low vibration levels.

In closing, if you want to balance your hormones and improve your energy levels, Yi Ren Qigong can help you accomplish your goals.  In addition, Yi Ren Qigong can assist you in learning to understand yourself better. This is possible, because this practice helps you connect and integrate your mind-body-soul.  You may be as strong as an Ox and not have any health issues, but you can still use Yi Ren Qigong to transform yourself to higher levels of internal peace and happiness.  Ideally it is best to stay as healthy as possible and not ever allow your body/mind to get a disease.  Yi Ren Qigong can help you to understand the depths of yourself beyond what most people assume is possible and from that information you can begin to learn how to live in a way that will allow you to avoid burning yourself out.  A quote Ben Franklin is credited with “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”.  The Tao of health can bring you health, vitality and longevity.

  • Taoist Secrets to a Strong & Youthful Body

    By Brendan Thorson, LMP  1/5/2012,

This article is published in the 2012-2013 Winter issue of the Qi-Journal Magazine

    www.visualphotos.com

Would you like to be strong, fit, well proportioned and energetic like a healthy teenager or young adult?  You commonly hear people say: That person is so lucky. They do not exercise much, they eat whatever and whenever they want and they look great. I wish I could be like that too.  Why do some people, young or old, have a great figure, energy levels, do not exercise much or seem to follow a strict diet, while others are just the opposite: always struggling with their figure, energies and commonly tired no matter how much they exercise or watch their diet.

The Ancient Taoists Masters sought longevity with strength and vitality, like people in the prime of their life.  In their search, they found that in order to maintain youthful wellbeing, one needs to have vibrant internal energies of the organs, glands and all the body’s systems. If you want to feel young and strong, you need to be able to have the same internal energy and balance of the youth.  Many of the secrets of the Ancient Taoists Masters teachings are available to you from Yi Ren Qigong–including the Internal-Alchemy secrets to a strong a youthful figure, regardless of your age.

Exercise and diet are very important to one’s health and vitality; however, if one’s internal energies, organs and glands are not working in a healthy and balanced way, neither exercise nor diet will result in a vibrant and well-shaped physique.  Thus, the Yi Ren Qigong curriculum is set up with a step-by-step process to bring one improved energy, internal balance of the organs and upgrade/maintenance of the essential endocrine systems, glands and hormone levels.  As practitioners develop themselves with the Yi Ren Qigong training, they begin to upgrade all of their internal energies and become aware of both their strengths and weaknesses.  From their new awareness, each practitioner can begin to create a personalized training program to lead them to increased internal balance and strength–a biologically younger you.  Many students notice their body strength and shape improve just from upgrading their internal energies without added physical exercise.

Life Gate point between Kidney’s (www.marcomalaca.com)

The Kidneys (life gate / kidney center) are a high priority in Yi Ren Qigong training to bring all practitioners improved energy levels and (in my experience) energizing all the other organs of the body (like the Sun sending its energy to the earth), creating strong legs, lower back (foundation), and powerful bones.  In order for us to have a strong and youthful body, it is essential to have our kidneys functioning at the highest level possible.  To further illustrate my point about the importance of the Kidneys to a powerful body, in Chinese Medicine they say weak Kidneys are responsible for soreness and weakness of the lower back and spine, weak body, asthma, assisting in digestion, weak bones, edema…..1  Before starting my Yi Ren Qigong training, I lived for many years with a very weak, sore and fragile lower back and spine.  After a period of time with my training, I was able to feel the kidneys getting stronger, which resulted in my lower back also getting stronger too.

Another key area to keep our bodies strong and youthful is the stomach/pancreas system.  The stomach/ pancreas system is connected to our digestion, necessary for the transformation of the consumed food energies into useful energies for the body.  A weak or low functioning stomach/ pancreas system can lead to a weak appetite, poor digestion, retention of food, abdominal distention, lack of strength.1   Also according to Chinese Medicine, the stomach is responsible for the strength of the large muscles of the body.1  Therefore, if one’s stomach /pancreas energies diminish, that person may develop soft, weak and thin muscles.  To summarize, the stomach/ pancreas system is very important area to keep the body in top shape.

The Liver also has a big role in one maintaining hearty strength.  According to Chinese Medicine, the liver controls the health and strength of the tendons and joints.  Therefore, one with weak tendons and joints would most likely have weak or low liver energies.  When I first began having health problems as a teenager it began with left knee tendinitis and as the years continued I reached a point where I had weaknesses and problems in almost all of my major joints of my body–ankles, knees, hips, shoulders, elbows and wrists.  Contrary to common modern day thought, the Ancient Taoist Masters believed that the tendons and joints were more important to develop in order to bring one strength with longevity–as opposed to today’s emphasis on building up the muscles.  Through the Yi Ren Qigong practice we nourish and develop all the organs, including the liver, to help all practitioners gain stronger internal and external strength.

The Endocrine Gland System and hormones are another key factor in obtaining and maintaining power and an attractive figure like a young person.  Every endocrine gland has its role and having each function at a high level is key for our health. I will focus on the functions of the Reproductive glands (testes and ovaries), Adrenals, pancreas and the thyroid glands and how they affect our health and youthfulness.  The “essence” of the reproductive glands are essential for the overall vitality and longevity of the entire body and mind. It helps keep the body strong and vibrant: This is why boxers’ trainers commonly prohibit their fighters from having sex for a certain period of time before their upcoming fight.  Personally I recall prior to starting my Yi Ren training how deeply exhausted and fragile I would usually feel after love-making, then after a period of time training and building up my internal energies I no longer felt exhausted after copulation, like I did before hand.

Earlier, I wrote about the pancreas and how it works with the stomach.  From my understanding, the pancreas has functions of both an organ and a gland.  As a gland, the pancreas “helps the body to maintain healthy blood sugar (glucose) levels. The pancreas secretes insulin, a hormone that helps glucose move from the blood into the cells where it is used for energy. The pancreas also secretes glucagon when the blood sugar is low. Glucagon tells the liver to release glucose, stored in the liver as glycogen, into the bloodstream.”2   One aspect of the Adrenal Glands, “The adrenal cortex produces glucocorticoids (such as cortisol) that help the body control blood sugar, increase the burning of protein and fat.”2  While, “The thyroid hormones control your metabolism, which is the body’s ability to break down food and store it as energy and the ability to break down food into waste products with a release of energy in the process.”2

From my experience, by practicing Yi Ren Qigong, we can really upgrade all of the glands.  This will allow them to function at higher and higher levels. I have had numerous personal experiences with my hormone levels getting stronger, in fact, prior to me studying Yi Ren Qigong my facial hair grew very slow and extremely spotty, then after a certain period of time after I began my training my facial hair began to grow much faster and fuller.  Another example is how my thyroid began talking to me; after a couple of years I recall being able to feel my thyroid commonly pulsating and vibrating and every time I felt it occur it was very clear to me that it was in the process of getting an energy boost to help it get stronger and function at a higher level and now 10+ years later I continue to feel my thyroid pulsate and vibrate as it continues to get stronger and stronger. From my own experience, the thyroid can be also used more or less like a light switch in that I can consciously amplify my thyroid and use it to turn on and activate other glands and systems of the body too.  Healthy and optimum performance of the entire endocrine system, including the parts of the system mentioned above, are a major key in one maintaining vivaciousness and beauty.

In addition, to working with the organs and glands, the Yi Ren Qigong system also includes a few classes like the Moving with Qi, where we bring energy out to the muscles and muscle channels.  The exercises we do in those classes are physically very easy and low impact, but I commonly see female students bodies get much tighter and slimmer from that class.  From my understanding, this happens because we bring the new energy into the Fascia (in between the muscles and muscle layers) as the “Qi” goes into the fascia, it then begins to push out the old (unhealthy) fat tissues built up in those areas. This is a result of replacing the old fat with higher quality “Qi”.  Like wringing water out of a towel or in this case excess fat.

The Internal-Alchemy–upgrade and balance of one’s internal energies and energy systems that occur from Yi Ren Qigong training can help most achieve a stronger and more youthful body.  As a student who began Yi Ren Qigong training with so many weaknesses and problems I have personally experienced and witnessed my body become more youthful and look much healthier–biologically younger from my Yi Ren Qigong practice. If you are interested in looking and feeling younger I hope you will begin your journey with Yi Ren Qigong soon!
